We see the drunkard's wife, whose home has been destroyed by alcohol. They have two children, a girl of 5 years and an infant at the mother's breast, who neither of them can support. The wife leaps off a bridge into a river but is saved by a nearby police officer, who directs her to the welfare center, where the entire family can obtain institutional help. The infant and its mother are nurtured and cared for at the infant shelter. The father is sent to a sanatorium, where he recovers both his physical health and reconciles with God. The older girl is sent to school and thrives. In the end, the family is happy and whole again.
